Our hardwood sawdust is sourced from a trusted supplier whose mill works with approximately 80% oak and 20% other hardwoods. This means you’re getting a 100% hardwood mix, ideal for mushroom cultivation. The blend of dense, lignin-rich hardwoods—especially oak—provides an excellent substrate for growing a wide range of wood-loving mushrooms.

Description

Hardwood Sawdust – Sourced from Oak and Other Hardwoods

Sawdust is used to grow wood loving mushrooms such as Shitake, King Oyster, Wine Cap, Chicken of the woods, Turkey Tail, Lions Mane, Maitake and Reishi mushrooms.

Paul Stamets Sawdust Recipe:
73 % Sawdust
24.6 % Bran
2.4 % Gypsum
65% water added to the above mix.This mixture is added to a mushroom grow bag and sterilized at 15 psi for at least 2 hours ( depending on the size and amount of bags being sterilize

This type of substrate treatment is easy for most people to do at home.

Our special peat moss mix consists of a mix of responsibly sourced, screened European Blond Sphagnum Peat (0-6mm, 80%), Perlite (1-3mm, 20%), N-P-K + Trace Element Primer (550g/m³, E.C. 1.o – 2.5), Calcitic and Dolomitic Lime and a Wetting Agent.

The pH level of the substrate has been adjusted to between 5.1 and 6.0.

Soy Hulls
Soy Hulls

Soy Hull are a key ingredient in the  masters mix substrate pioneered by TR Davis of Earth Angel Mushrooms. Masters mix substrate colonises fast and has high yields, it encourages a larger than average first flush allowing for quick turnover. Masters mix is heavily supplemented and will require sterilisation.

To make masters’ mix you will need an equal weight of soy hulls and hardwood sawdust. This is to be hydrated to 60%. Use the following recipe to produce 2.3 kg of substrate which is inoculated with 200 grams of grain spawn.

  • 450 grams soy hulls
  • 450 hardwood sawdust
  • 1.4 litres water
  • Mix together and sterilize for 2h30.
